My research focuses on on community-level adaptation and examining the socio-cultural drivers of vulnerability to climate change and natural hazards. I have worked in Central and South America, East Africa and South and Southeast Asia. Based in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam, I am a Research Associate with the Overseas Development Institute in London and an Associate with Stockholm Environment Institute Asia Centre in Bangkok, where I was also a Senior Research Fellow from 2008-2013. I lecture at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh city and consult for a number of regional organisations, including the Asian Development Bank and the Mekong River Commission. I was a Lead Author in two recent reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and am a founding Associate Editor of the academic journal Climate and Development. I am half Swedish, half Californian, speak five languages, and rescue street cats in my spare time.
