How can urban planners and infrastructure investors work with a billion slum dwellers around the world to build sustainable and resilient cities?
Slum Dwellers International (SDI) brings slum dwellers into the planning process using SDI’s Know Your City data system in two innovative collaborations: with the Global Infrastructure Basel (GIB) Foundation, applying the Standard for Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure (SuRe®) Smartscan tool to assess infrastructure projects; and with Itad and 100 Resilient Cities – pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) – to promote “bottom-up” city resilience planning.
The Resilience Measurement, Evidence and Learning Community of Practice is excited to announce four Open Innovation Awards, with the support of The Rockefeller Foundation and Windward Fund.
These innovative collaboration initiatives promise to advance the field of resilience measurement, evidence and practice in new and emergent areas: stimulating inclusive and equitable urban development; demonstrating the application of resilience measurement to real-time decision-making; and testing and validating how new data-gathering technologies can help the design, monitoring and evaluation of interventions to strengthen resilience.
Can anonymized mobile phone call detail records predict food security? Can this help to better target resilience interventions? Flowminder Foundation in partnership with Mercy Corps and the Feinstein International Centre (FIC) of Tufts University set out to find out more.
How can resilience measurement and evidence help implementers to make real-time changes to programmes that could strengthen latent resilience capacities in at-risk communities in the face of approaching threats? The collaboration between Itad and Mercy Corps will explore how resilience implementers currently make decisions and how resilience measurement can support adaptive management.
