What it's about:
The latest newsletter from the UNDP and OCHA-led Connecting Business initiative includes updates from 12 private sector networks that work on resilience and strategic private-sector engagement in disaster prevention, preparedness, response and recovery, past and upcoming webinars, events, new reports, videos, etc.
The Connecting Business initiative (CBi), launched at the World Humanitarian Summit in May 2016, aims to transform the way the private sector engages before, during and after emergencies, increasing the scale and effectiveness of the response in a coordinated manner. CBi supports 13 platforms for collective private sector action, connecting them to national government and international crisis management structures, thus enabling private sector resources to be deployed faster and more effectively.
Why it's noteworthy:
The private sector is often called to support after disasters have hit, but their contributions are fragmented and the scale of their support is not well known.
The Connecting Business initiative aims to change this and engage the private sector as a strategic partner early on,
helping to also highlight the important contributions they can make.
